The Steinway Society of New Orleans made the largest contribution in its history towards the purchase of a new Steinway concert grand piano that was recently acquired by First Baptist Church of New Orleans and had its debut concert on Sunday, Dec. 6th. This brings the non-profit organization's total charitable contributions to over $50,000. The Steinway Society of New Orleans is committed to supporting the arts and educational community in the Greater New Orleans area through piano competitions for scholarships, a "piano bank" for underprivileged youth, cash donations, and through special educational and social events.
A presentation was made to First Baptist Church of New Orleans during its annual "Keyboards at Christmas" on Sunday night. The event features local musicians playing on several pianos at once in a program prepared by Dr. Becky Lombard of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. The presentation was made by Steinway Representative Chad Clements on behalf of the Steinway Society of New Orleans: "The Steinway Society got involved early on in the talks to replace the piano..." says Clements, "and decided to make a cash contribution when the plans to replace the piano were made official. The Steinway Society of New Orleans is privileged to partner with you tonight with this donation of $11,890." The Steinway Society of New Orleans congratulates First Baptist Church of New Orleans on another successful year of "Keyboards at Christmas" and on the acquisition of a beautiful concert piano that will serve the congregation for generations to come.
